Support Worker & Administrative Assistant

16 Hours permanent paid role, 10am – 2:30pm Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday

This role’s main aims are to support clients, build meaningful relationships, and perform administrative functions for the centre. This role works alongside volunteers and reports to the Corps Officer/s.

Key tasks


  • Maintain foodbank stock to meet community needs;

  • Manage foodbank space to ensure food is stored accessibly and safely;

  • Welcome and create safe connections with clients;

  • Provide compassionate assessments for clients;

  • Assist clients with identifying and setting achievable goals;

  • Carry out advocacy work and provide referrals for clients;

  • Respond to email, phone and social media enquiries;

  • Order office supplies and manage office space;

  • Maintain and update required databases and inventories;

  • Securely and accurately maintain case notes and client information;

Person Specification


  • Empathetic and understanding towards vulnerable people in need of community support;

  • Ability to handle sensitive information in a confidential manner;

  • Good understanding of Te Ao Māori and the Treaty of Waitangi;

  • Ability to work within a team environment and also independently when required;

  • An empathy with the overall Mission of The Salvation Army - Caring for People; Transforming Lives, and Reforming Society;

  • Intermediate computer skills and an understanding of the Microsoft Office suite;

  • Reasonable levels of physical fitness
